The Benidorm City Council has granted the building permit to expand Port Benidorm Hotel & Spa, located in the Rincón de Loix neighborhood. The establishment is owned by the renowned entrepreneur Toni Mayor, president of the Port Hotels chain and former leader of the sector’s employers' association in the Comunitat, Hosbec. The project includes the construction of an adjacent 26-story tower, eight more than the current flagship building in the city of skyscrapers. The work is expected to be completed before the high season of 2026, according to company sources.
The new building will house 125 hotel rooms, bringing the total to 406 rooms in the establishment. This will be achieved through a new structure connected to the existing building, as seen in the accompanying image. Of the 26 floors of the new tower, 23 will be dedicated to the new accommodation units, while the remaining floors will enhance and expand the range of services and common areas “to offer our guests a comprehensive luxury and wellness experience.”
Additionally, new pool areas will be added, and the hotel’s current rooftop will be expanded to increase the capacity and services of La Terrasse, the restaurant located in this space. Furthermore, the existing parking lot will be demolished and replaced with a new three-level parking area to improve capacity and accessibility.
Previously, the company had to initiate the entire procedure to apply for an Interior Reform Plan (PRI) that would allow them to increase the buildable area of the plot in exchange for compensating the municipality financially and relinquishing square meters in setbacks. However, according to the documentation, they do not have the environmental license prior to the building permit as it is still being processed. As a result, they have assumed the risk and responsibility for the consequences if it is not granted, thereby committing not to receive compensation. This is a reversal of steps allowed by law in such cases.
The deadline for the execution of the work is 24 months, and the permit will expire if the works have not commenced within six months of notification. Once started, the works will be halted for six months.
This is not the first renovation the hotel has undergone since being acquired by Toni Mayor. After purchasing the property, previously known as Los Dálmatas, the entrepreneur opened the doors of the new accommodation in 2016 with his signature touch following a significant transformation process and an investment of 13 million euros. He also established his headquarters there, from where he manages the chain, which includes eleven establishments throughout the Valencian Community. Five years later, he continued with the conversion by undertaking new works on the structure, followed by further expansions of the rooms and spaces, such as the rooftop converted into a bar with privileged views of the beach and the skyline. This constant evolution has allowed the hotel to achieve a superior four-star rating.
“The expansion of Port Benidorm Hotel & Spa not only reinforces Port Hotels’ commitment to growth and innovation in the hotel industry but also underscores its investment in Benidorm as a key destination for national and international tourism,” stated the hotel chain. They added, “With this project, Port Hotels continues to elevate the quality and service standards that have characterized the chain throughout its history.”
Currently, the company employs over 800 people, manages 1,925 rooms, and offers nearly 4,000 hotel beds.

Port Hotels, a hotel chain with 11 hotels in Elche, Alicante, Benidorm, Calpe, Dénia, and Valencia, has renewed the Bioscore Certification across all its properties. Internationally recognized, the Bioscore Certification evaluates sustainability through its own standard, which is acknowledged by the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourist Council). This prestigious certification is a testament to Port Hotels' commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The Bioscore certification assesses multiple aspects of sustainability, including energy efficiency, waste management, responsible use of natural resources, and sustainable labor practices. Port Hotels' properties have implemented a series of measures to reduce their environmental impact and promote more responsible tourism.
The Benidorm-based hotel group has worked to integrate sustainable practices into its daily operations across all departments, such as implementing motion sensor systems and energy-saving devices, recycling programs, reducing single-use plastics, installing drinking water dispensers, minimizing food waste, and collaborating with local suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint, among other initiatives.
This year, the company has incorporated water footprint calculations into its sustainability standards to optimize resources and reduce environmental impact. Water footprint data is crucial for planning long-term sustainable strategies that ensure the resilience of the establishments against potential water shortages in the future.
“The renewal of the Bioscore certification in all our establishments is an important milestone for Port Hotels. It not only reflects our 'Guests of The Planet' commitment but also offers our guests peace of mind, knowing that they are choosing responsible accommodations,” says Ana Mayor, Vice President of Port Hotels. “We believe it is our responsibility to care for the environment and the community in which we operate, and this certification is a significant step towards achieving that goal.”
The Hotel Huerto del Cura, owned by the Port Hotels chain, is a unique hotel located in the heart of the Palmeral of Elche, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
The Palmeral of Elche, also known as the Palm Groves of Elche, is a large expanse of palm trees within the city of Elche.
The hotel features more than 600 palm trees within its premises. They spread throughout the garden, around the pool, and blend with the rooms distributed in bungalows, forming a city oasis.
Every year, when summer arrives, it is time to prune the more than 200,000 specimens that make up this peculiar landscape. The Hotel Huerto del Cura not only offers a refuge of luxury and comfort but also bears witness to this millenary tradition. The hotel’s palm trees are also part of the municipal pruning plan carried out each year.
Pruning the palm trees is an essential activity to maintain the health and beauty of the palm grove. This process not only improves the appearance of the palm trees but also prevents diseases and pests, ensuring the longevity of these magnificent trees.
The pruning of the palm grove combines traditional techniques passed down from generation to generation with modern methods that guarantee the safety and effectiveness of the process. The pruners, known as "palmereros," are genuine artisans who use specific tools to cut the dry leaves and suckers, avoiding damage to the palm tree trunk.
Guests at the Hotel Huerto del Cura have had the unique opportunity to closely observe this fascinating activity.
We invite you to visit the Hotel Huerto del Cura and experience the magic of the Palmeral of Elche. For more information and reservations, visit our website.

Both hotels have implemented specific actions that were previously audited to obtain this recognition. Among the measures taken are widening of doors and corridors, modification of access with ramps and accessible elevators, installation of emergency lighting signals and alarm devices in bathrooms, implementation of specific table reservations in the restaurant for quick and unobstructed access to the buffet, and modification of the height of elevator controls, among others.
The objective of Benidorm's Tourism Accessibility Plan is to create a roadmap or action plan that allows the city to improve its positioning in the tourism market and establish itself as an inclusive, accessible, and socially responsible destination, ensuring equal opportunities for all individuals.
Lean Management is a powerful methodology aimed at continuous improvement. It involves identifying waste or "muda," which is defined as anything that does not add value for both internal and especially external customers, and eliminating it. Delays affecting guests, constant breakdowns, quality defects, movements of people and materials, warehouses full of perishable materials and products, or overproduction are considered waste and are the target to eradicate when working with Lean Management. At Port Hotels, we embrace this methodology to improve efficiency and, therefore, the satisfaction of both our internal and external customers. In this first foray into Lean Management, we have focused on the housekeeping and storeroom departments and have improved our internal procedures with cost reductions and task completion times. The application of Lean Management methodology requires the participation of teams that carry out most of the processes and are at the base of the hierarchical pyramid of a company. They always know what is happening or what may happen in a hotel, in our case.

If you're looking forward to the May holiday weekend to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital, at Port Hotels, we have the perfect plan for you.
This time, we suggest visiting Valencia. It's a surprising destination with plenty of activities you can do in one, two, three days, or however long you wish to stay in the city. You'll always find something to do!
Your visit to the Valencian capital begins at one of the Port accommodations. Port Azafata and Port Feria are two three-star hotels located away from the city center but very well connected, a perfect option to forget about the car. On our website, you can reserve parking before your arrival. This way, you can use public transportation—metro, bus, or commuter rail—to get around to all your plans. Here are all the available options: How to Get Around Valencia | Valencia Transportation (visitvalencia.com)
Once you arrive in downtown Valencia, we suggest visiting some of the city's most important historical monuments. The Town Hall Square will be your first stop. Don't miss the chance to take a photo at its imposing entrance and admire its presidential balcony, so iconic during the Fallas festival.
If you continue your route towards Ciutat Vella, you'll find Plaza Redonda, the Central Market, the Silk Exchange, the Plaza de la Reina, the Valencia Cathedral, and the Plaza de la Virgen. Sightseeing tends to work up an appetite, so take advantage of the charming streets in this neighborhood to enjoy a terrace in the sun while tasting a traditional Valencian Paella.
Valencian Paella is a typical dish throughout the autonomous community, specifically originating from this city. Each locality has its own recipe, but the authentic one consists of rice, chicken, rabbit, green beans, tomato, "garrofó" (a type of bean), saffron, and olive oil.
To continue your getaway, we suggest an afternoon of shopping on Calle Colón, the most commercial area in Valencia. Fashion, makeup, technology, sports, home goods, local shops, and something for everyone.
At the end of Calle Colón, you'll find the imposing Valencia Bullring, operational since 1859. Next to it is the North Station, Valencia's historic main train station.
To top off a fantastic and complete day in Valencia, we suggest returning to the hotel and enjoying Room Service at Port Azafata. If, on the other hand, you're staying at Port Feria, you can enjoy a delicious informal dinner at the Cel & Terra restaurant.
If you decide to stay a few more days in Valencia, here are some other very interesting plans:
Are you in? We await you at Port Hotels.
