On 21 September 2025, Benidorm will once again experience a very special day with the celebration of the 3rd Edition of the Solidarity Race, an event promoted by the Benidorm City Council and organised by the Socio-Cultural Association of the Local Police of Benidorm in collaboration with the Benidorm Athletics Club. As part of its commitment to sustainability and resource efficiency, the Valencia-based hotel chain Port Hotels is launching a new system to monitor and reduce food waste in its kitchens. The pilot project is being carried out at the Hotel Port Europa in Calpe, and is a step forward in its ‘Guests of the Planet’ environmental strategy. 

The initiative incorporates advanced technology to collect data in real time using smart digital scales. This system makes it possible to accurately measure and analyse daily food waste, identify critical points in processes and apply specific strategies for improvement. The goal: to optimise the use of resources, reduce operating costs and minimise environmental impact. 

This project is developed in line with the principles of THE PLEDGE on Food Waste, a global platform that encourages companies in the tourism and catering sector to adopt good practices in the prevention of food waste. In addition, it actively contributes to the fulfilment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnerships for Achieving the Goals). 

The city of Elche is celebrating its Jubilee Year with an extensive programme of cultural, musical and theatrical activities to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the declaration of the Dogma of the Assumption. In this context, La Taula Restaurant, located in the Hotel Port Jardín Milenio, has designed an exclusive menu that pays tribute to Elche's culinary tradition and local, seasonal ingredients.

The Benidorm City Council has granted the building permit to expand Port Benidorm Hotel & Spa, located in the Rincón de Loix neighborhood. The establishment is owned by the renowned entrepreneur Toni Mayor, president of the Port Hotels chain and former leader of the sector’s employers' association in the Comunitat, Hosbec. The project includes the construction of an adjacent 26-story tower, eight more than the current flagship building in the city of skyscrapers. The work is expected to be completed before the high season of 2026, according to company sources.

The new building will house 125 hotel rooms, bringing the total to 406 rooms in the establishment. This will be achieved through a new structure connected to the existing building, as seen in the accompanying image. Of the 26 floors of the new tower, 23 will be dedicated to the new accommodation units, while the remaining floors will enhance and expand the range of services and common areas “to offer our guests a comprehensive luxury and wellness experience.”

Additionally, new pool areas will be added, and the hotel’s current rooftop will be expanded to increase the capacity and services of La Terrasse, the restaurant located in this space. Furthermore, the existing parking lot will be demolished and replaced with a new three-level parking area to improve capacity and accessibility.

Previously, the company had to initiate the entire procedure to apply for an Interior Reform Plan (PRI) that would allow them to increase the buildable area of the plot in exchange for compensating the municipality financially and relinquishing square meters in setbacks. However, according to the documentation, they do not have the environmental license prior to the building permit as it is still being processed. As a result, they have assumed the risk and responsibility for the consequences if it is not granted, thereby committing not to receive compensation. This is a reversal of steps allowed by law in such cases.

The deadline for the execution of the work is 24 months, and the permit will expire if the works have not commenced within six months of notification. Once started, the works will be halted for six months.

This is not the first renovation the hotel has undergone since being acquired by Toni Mayor. After purchasing the property, previously known as Los Dálmatas, the entrepreneur opened the doors of the new accommodation in 2016 with his signature touch following a significant transformation process and an investment of 13 million euros. He also established his headquarters there, from where he manages the chain, which includes eleven establishments throughout the Valencian Community. Five years later, he continued with the conversion by undertaking new works on the structure, followed by further expansions of the rooms and spaces, such as the rooftop converted into a bar with privileged views of the beach and the skyline. This constant evolution has allowed the hotel to achieve a superior four-star rating.

The Port Hotels chain, with 11 hotels located in the Valencian Community, has signed an agreement with Gravity Wave, a social impact company focused on circular economy and environmental awareness, which was established with the mission of achieving plastic-free seas directly, concretely, and measurably.

Port Hotels, within the framework of its corporate commitment to the environment and territories under 'Guests of the Planet' initiative and in commemoration of World Water Day, has entered into an agreement with Gravity Wave to join the #plasticfreeoceans commitment. The hotel group has agreed to collect 1,000 kilograms of plastic from the sea. The plastic cleanup will take place in the depths and ports of the Mediterranean Sea, alongside the traditional fishing communities and networks that Gravity Wave operates with, distributed across countries such as Spain, Greece, Italy, and Egypt.

This agreement is aligned with three major sustainability pillars that the organization works on: plastic reduction, optimal waste management, and social responsibility. The aim of this agreement is to enhance the quality of the environment and reduce the impact of tourist activities in the cities where Port Hotels operates.

SAN JUAN BEACH
Is one of the most appreciated beaches in the province of Alicante. It is almost 3 km long and a width highly value since in some sections it reaches 100 m.
Fine sands and transparent waters make it ideal to enjoy throughout the year. This beach also has areas for the practice of different sports such as volleyball, football, windsurfing, paddle surfing, etc.

The rector of the University Miguel Hernández (UMH) of Elche, Juanjo Ruiz, and the President of Port Hotels, Antonio Mayor, have signed an agreement of commercial advantages for the university community of the UMH. This action is part of the collaboration framework agreement, which both institutions have signed this morning in the facilities of the Huerto del Cura Hotel in Elche.

Through this agreement, both entities will collaborate in the execution of joint educational and cultural projects and programs or in the cooperation of personnel training programs. Also, through this agreement, Gestur Huerto del Cura, SL will offer discounts to the university community of the UMH in the different services offered by this group.

The hotel chain, Port Hotels, has been expanding with the incorporation of 2 new establishments, Hotel Huerto del Cura and Jardín Milenio, both four-star hotels.

The hotel Huerto del Cura (Elche, Alicante) has 86 rooms placed amongst its gardens, featuring an interesting concept of horizontality that is highly appreciated by its guests.

The Hotel Milenio (Elche, Alicante) with 72 rooms offers excellent facilities for resting, visiting the city or celebrating any type of event.

These hotels will adapt to Port Hotels' philosophy and quality standards. Marketed as Port Garden Milenio and Port Huerto del Cura, these two hotels will benefit from the commercial strength and know-how of the hotel chain.

With these two new acquisitions, Port Hotels will have a workforce of 618 employees and will manage 3,830 hotel beds in 5 destinations.

These acquisitions reinforce and diversify the hotel business of the Port Hotels chain, dedicated to the operation, commercialization and management of hotel establishments in the Autonomous Region of Valencia.
